In July of 2010 Freddie Gibbs hit the Windy City as a headliner of this year’s edition of the Pitchfork Music Festival. Closing down the Balance Stage, Gibbs performed in front of 30,000 people as he brought the gritty streets of Gary, Indiana to Chicago’s Union Park. Before his Pitchfork performance, Freddie Gibbs hosted RubyHornet’s monthly Digital Freshness party at Beauty and hit SoundScape Studio for the second edition of the LRG and Closed Sessions collaborative project. Freddie Gibbs decided to work with up and comer YP and after a few beats and blunts, “Something New” was born featuring the smooth production of Chicago’s Million $ Mano.

After i did Rihanna’s Show at Madison Square Garden for the 2nd time i saw my guys Don C and kanye back stage. Don and virg told me the other night that the party was gonna be “PROPER ATTIER ONLY” meaning suits only for guys and beautiful nicely dressed women. I came there bruno magli wing tips, Calvin Klein Suit, D&G skinny tie, grey & grey ant wayfarer. Basically i was “suited” Now all they good music fam was there mos def, don c, Ibn, virg, cons, pusha T, Carrie Mun, ATrak, ferris B, mr, Hudson, DillaMan, Dan Henderson, Estelle, Plain Pat and a slew of others. The set was really improved with Kanye as the leading man on vocals and MPC200xL back by John Legend and another back up on keys. Kanye command the crowd with a slew of hits from his 1st full length “The College DropOut” to his most recent album (still untitled) with stutters from the MPC on samples of Lyn Collins “think” on estelles “American Girl” and his Sultry club banger “Flashing Lights” from his 07″ album Graduation he kept the crowds attention. My most memorable moment was him going into a rant about him thinking about his ex from time to time and how he feels guilty for doing so. The venue (The Box) is a classy Burlesque, Salon type club. It’s pretty weird if your really conservative. On a regular day its entertainment includes weirdo Burlesque dancers and occasional tranni shows (YUCK!!) but this night was dope. I ended the evening with dinner/breakfast at cafe. Look out 4 RoseWood coming to a town near you!!
